Hypnotherapy

A very warm welcome to Hypnotherapy with Kirsty Yvette, I hope this page provides you with a good insight into what Hypnotherapy is and what to expect from Hypnotherapy sessions here at Pure Wellness.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural ability that we all possess and it’s one of the most powerful tools available to us as human beings. It’s a natural state, in which increasing levels of relaxation are experienced by focusing the mind on a single or limited stimulus. The hypnotic trance utilised in a hypnotherapy session harnesses your natural ability to enter a heightened state of awareness under the therapists’ guidance.

The most important point to mention before all else is that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The process always respects your internal values and beliefs; therefore, you remain in control throughout the entire process.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

A detailed case history is taken in the initial consultation. Together we will then establish the best therapeutic approach for you, based on the details of your presenting complaint and your aims. This is a fundamental element of the programme, as it ensures that the treatment plan is realistic and achievable and presents the best opportunity to discuss your expectations and objectives from the sessions. There is no one size fits all approach when it comes to hypnotherapy and so I find the best approach is person centred with your best interests always at the heart of the therapy sessions.

In following sessions, hypnosis will be used as part of the treatment. There are numerous ways to facilitate a hypnotic trance. I find enhancing relaxation to be a particularly effective method to guide clients into a hypnotic state - particularly for those who are new to hypnotherapy and may be a bit nervous on their first treatment.  Once in a hypnotic state you may feel increased levels of relaxation in your body and a calmness which is achieved by turning down the volume your conscious mind and its internal chatter; thus, allowing you to access your unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is very receptive to suggestions and guided imagery. Delivering the therapeutic modalities directly to the unconscious mind is a leading factor in the reason hypnotherapy has such a high success rate.

Phases of care

There are 3 main phases of care in a hypnotherapy care plan, which are as follows:

Stabilise: This initial stage of care focuses on building clients’ internal resources and therefore optimising their results from treatment sessions. The stabilisation phase ensures that you feel ready to begin therapy and that hypnotherapy is the best approach for you.

Treatment: Hypnosis is used in conjunction with therapeutic tools to facilitate behavioural change. Self-hypnosis techniques will be taught, and homework will be set and reviewed at following sessions. This ensures you are confident with maintaining the progress achieved within the sessions independently and is a good indicator for long lasting results.

Maintenance: Once you have completed your treatment plan and feel confident applying the techniques you have learnt in your day to day life, a maintenance plan can be developed. The aim of this phase is to ensure your continued success and prevent relapse into previous behaviour patterns

Why do people visit hypnotherapists?

Just as we would use a personal trainer to jump start a good exercise routine and a nutritionist to help create healthy eating habits; hypnotherapy is a process that creates functional thinking patterns and behaviours that replace unhelpful habits. It's effectively training the mind to function optimally through mental exercises just as we would train our body to function optimally through physical exercise.
